I’m not against medicine, but it’s definitely a last resort and well-thought in its use around here. I prefer to look to natural ingredients and food and drinks as much as we can. I’m always turning to home ingredients for ways to support our immune systems in their natural fights.
To that end, I wanted to share with you my favorite recipe for those yucky cold and cough times. I got this recipe from Rashmi over at YumKid, whom I wrote for years ago. I once tweeted that I was feeling coughy and she shared this recipe. I’m so glad she did because it’s everything you want in a home remedy. It tastes comforting. The results are instant. And the way it makes the house smell… oh so good.
- 2 cups of water
- 5 cloves
- 5 pepper corns
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3-4 chunks of fresh ginger
- Place all the ingredients into a small sauce pan and boil lightly for twenty minutes. Pour into a coffee mug, straining out the spices. Sip and feel your cough melt away!
- We add some local honey when we want it sweeter.
